Shopping for new furniture, appliances or renovation contractors can be time consuming and stressful. It’s a major reason why so many people attend home shows, because all the comparison shopping and research can be done in one place.
The 2022 Edmonton Home and Garden Show, March 24 to 27 at the Edmonton Expo Centre, will have more than 400 exhibitors showcasing new products, services and ideas. Most will be demonstrating their wares and offering significant price incentives. It will be an opportunity to talk to the business owners themselves, all of whom have been vetted by show organizers.
Here are a few local enterprises who will be dispensing advice at the Edmonton Home and Garden Show.
Big Foot Rubber Paving Inc.
One of the most economical and environmentally sustainable ways to spruce up deteriorating pavement or cement is paving with rubber. Big Foot Rubber Paving uses recycled tire rubber combined with a binding agent to pave driveways, garages floors and walkways. Big Foot also sells rubber mulch.
Owner Marnie Workman says visitors to the Big Foot booth can see videos of their work and coloured samples of rubber paving and moulded goods.
“We invite everyone to enter our draw to win 10 bags of mulch. We’re also giving a five per cent discount off bookings for this year,” she says.

Jerry and Faith Giesbrecht, owners of Edmonton’s Avenue Appliance, are bringing store samples to the home show.
“We have individual boutique kitchens in our store on Whyte Avenue. We have Miele kitchen, a Bosch kitchen — we have about five or six kitchens set up just as you would see them at home. We’ll be pulling a piece or two from each kitchen to give people a taste of what we have at our store,” says Jerry.
Other cool appliances at the show will be a Kamada Joe Smoker, a colourful Italian refrigerator by Smeg and Miele vacuum cleaners, which are “amazing” according to Jerry.

Flooring: Affinity Flooring
Quality flooring is made to dance on, so that’s what visitors to the home show can do at the Affinity Flooring booth.
“We’re going to have a DJ. We’re promoting living and loving on your floors, so with that in mind, we’re giving dance classes three times a day from Footnotes Dance Studio. Different, right,” says store owner Charmaine Monteith. “Takes a woman to come up with something like this.”
Affinity Flooring specializes in residential, commercial and do-it-yourself flooring.

Home Decor and Furniture: Old Hippy Wood Products
Handcrafted furniture made following age-old practices is the hallmark of Old Hippy Wood Products. Despite being around for more than three decades, Old Hippy continues to find new, appreciative customers on the home show circuit.
“We bring down tables, chairs, dining sets, bedroom suites and maybe a few cabinets to the show every year,” says Roger Gemmell, who works in the Sherwood Park location. “We have some floor stock but most of our furniture is built to order. We have more than 20 stains to choose from and thousands of fabrics and leathers. It’s all about quality.”
